Upcycle Awards & Fashion Show 2016
We’ve long said the Southland is full of creative and artistic minds. Yes we may be butchers, receptionists or dairy workers on the outside, but on the inside lurks the knitter, the sewer, the painter, the musician or actor. Creativity seems to thrive down South and there is now another incentive to get crafty and show others how to re-use, reduce and recycle in the process. A few years ago was the inaugural Up-cycle Awards and Fashion Show which was held at the Lindisfarne Community Church. It was a way for charity shops and local designers to show the community what clothing could be found in their stores and how to use those items together to make new looks or pull old garments apart and create something entirely new. It was a great success and the interest grew which saw the event moved to a larger venue the following year for another fantastic show. Unfortunately last year the show disappeared from the social calendar, for various reasons, but as luck would have it this year it’s going to be back with a vengeance; new location, new organizers, new categories and hopefully more and new entries. The organisers are working hard behind the scenes to finalise categories and other key elements but we were allowed to share this exciting news with you!
This year’s show will be held at Hansen’s Hall at Southern Institute of Technology on September 10th. There is still plenty of time to go op-shopping, clear out your wardrobe or dust off those sewing machines and knitting needles.
Entries will be open soon and the competition categories so far are:
3) Best Accessory
6) Open Section
(These could be added to).
If you are interested in entering the Up-cycle Awards, please email your interest to email@example.com so they can keep you up-to date with when entries are open and other important information.
